What To Expect
Before your Consultation:
When you schedule your complimentary consultation with Dr. Surjit Rai you have the option of an in-person consultation or a Facetime/Skype consultation. Many of Dr. Rai’s patients come from other states and request an online consultation. There is a $100 fee for online consultations which will be credited towards your scheduled surgery.
During your Consultation:
Dr. Rai and you will visit together. You will discuss any issues or concerns you have been having with your implants. Dr. Rai will discuss the procedure as well as all possible risks and benefits so that you can make the most informed decision possible. Dr. Rai will take photos and perform a physical exam. He will detail what to expect during your surgical journey and answer all questions that you may have. Prior to leaving the appointment you will have a detailed quotation for the procedure and our office manager will discuss any possible financing options with you.
After your Consultation:
Dr. Surjit Rai understands how important and life changing this decision is for you. Because of this, he will always be available to answer any further questions that may come up after your consultation through email, phone calls, or another consultation if you wish. If you wish to proceed with surgery then you call us at 972-566-6500 to schedule your surgical date.
Before your Surgery:
You will meet with Dr. Rai again for your preoperative visit. At this time Dr. Rai will go over the procedure again with you. He will take some more preoperative photos, you will sign your surgical consents, and he will give you your prescriptions. This is a good time to answer any other questions that you may have. You will need to stop all blood thinning products 1 week prior to and 1 week after surgery (Advil, Motrin, Aleve, Fish-Oil, Omega3, and any herbals/supplements). If you are an active smoker you will need to be nicotine free for 1 month prior to and 1 month after surgery for any procedure that involves skin tightening (a breast lift). An implant removal (explant) can be performed safely on an active smoker.
On your Surgery Day:
Dr. Rai’s nurse will go over post operative instructions and drain care with you and your family members. You will meet with Dr. Rai prior to going into the operating room where he will draw his surgical markings and answer any final questions. You will then meet with your MD Anesthesiologist and he will answer any questions in regard to the anesthesia. You will then go into the operating room and the procedure will begin.
After the procedure is completed and you are recovered and ready to go home you will be taken down to your family member’s car.
After your Surgery:
Dr. Rai understands that surgery can be overwhelming to a lot of people. He will try to ease your concerns and call you the night of the surgery and the next day as well to check on you. He wants to make sure you are doing well, resting comfortably, and have no question during the first couple of days. He will direct you on what you should and should not be doing. If you have any questions or concerns, you call our office directly at 972-566-6500. If it is after hours or on the weekend you will be connected to Dr. Rai personally and he can answer your questions or concerns.
Immediately after surgery you will be wrapped in a compression ACE wrap. This will stay in place for 48 hours. After that you can remove the dressings and shower normally. After your shower you go back in the compression ACE wrap. After the drains are removed you are in compression for 48 hours then can go into a sports bra. During your post operative period Dr. Rai requests that you avoid any heavy lifting or strenuous activity for 2 weeks. This will not only help the incisions heal faster but also limit any possible bleeding risks. You will see Dr. Rai between day 3 and 5 for your drain removal, 1 week later, and then your post operative visits will be scheduled depending on how you are healing. Generally, at 4 weeks most patients are restriction free and can resume their normal physical activity.
